DIY: Special Calendar

Do you have problems figuring out what to buy for a friend? You haven't found the best idea for the present, yet? I know that buying a calendar sounds like a simple and easy way to get away with the problem. BUT. What if I tell you that it can be not only a fantastic and creative gift but also a personalized calendar for this special person.

I promise you this gift will put a big smile on somebody's face on the first day of receiving it as well as on the three hundred.

But there is a catch.
To make this idea possible you need a lot of patience and motivation since it will take time to finish the gift. You have it? Great!

Imagine that you use your calendar and from time to time spot a note with some fun fact concerning your interests, wouldn't that be cool? So this is it!
The crucial thing about this calendar is that you fill, decorate and develop it so that it is special for this one particular person. You fill the pages of the calendar with content such as pictures, news, fun facts or everything that you think will be interesting for the person.

You make it as creative as you can by using your knowledge of the receiver, colored sticky notes, paper, and glue (in my case lots of glue). Make it colorful, positive, and with love :)

This gift is perfect for many occasions, of course, as long as it is given either at the end or at the beginning of the year. Think about how many events could it be! Apart from birthday, it can be a Christmas gift, new year's gift, or even a gift for valentine's day. What's more, it can be a great anniversary gift if your special date is somewhere around winter.

Cover

When it comes to the cover, you have two options. You can either make it on your own or just choose and buy the best one.

A) If you opt for the first opportunity you can decorate the cover with photos and pictures or anything that comes to your mind, however, take into consideration what the other person likes.

B) The same appeals to the second idea when you just buy the cover. Simply do a small research in different online or locals shops to find the perfect one.

E.g. I decided to go for the IT cover that I found online. I knew that my bf would love it since he likes nerdy things. Moreover, my online shop makes personalized calendars by printing a particular name on the cover. It's just a wonderful idea.

The Inside

What do you need?

Make sure you have a bunch of small colored pieces of paper, some sticky notes, glue and Internet connection and a lot of time. Here the real fun begins!

Before you start let's think about what to put in the calendar.

1. Prepare a piece of paper for the draft

2. Take a moment to note down the most important things that must be in the calendar, such as birthdays, festivals, holidays, anniversaries, etc

3. Then think about all the things the person is keen on and note down everything that appears in your mind

4. Now look for interesting and peculiar information on the Internet e.g. birthday dates or the first release of some game/single.

Caution

Remember to put all your notes in order by month and day. This way you will see which months lack in content!
! And remember to put the notes in different parts of the calendar's pages so that it will not stay thick only on one side!

Ready to go

If you run out of ideas, you can use websites that provide info about funny or not that known holidays, such as Hobbits' day, clean your desktop day or chocolate day.

You can put the date in your calendar with a simple note like "let's buy some chocolate and celebrate the greatest invention ;)"

Moreover, you can add a memory date with something you did together on this particular day. A good idea would be to put inside some DIY tickets, e.g. for a wild night out or a romantic dinner. I also added things like sudoku, mathematical equations or jokes. It is possible to draw something on the page or hide something under a link of code to scan!

Finally, take all the colored paper and sticky notes and start the development!
You can hide the information under the notes, put them on the paper and hide anyway. Use various patterns :)
